History

Following a successful series of light armoured reconnaissance and liaison vehicles, the Ferret Scout Car was extensively used by British and Commonwealth military forces from the 1950s, with later models participating in the Gulf War of 1990.

Tracing its roots back to the effective Daimler Dingo scout car from the Second World War, the Ferret was engineered for stealth, being a nimble and swift armoured vehicle capable of scouting enemy positions and relaying any identified vulnerabilities to commanders, enabling their forces to take advantage.

With an operational weight of approximately 4 tons, the Ferret was constructed entirely from welded armour, offering protection against most small arms fire, though it was not designed to confront heavy enemy armour directly.

In challenging situations, the Ferret's four-wheel drive was powered by a dependable 6-cylinder Rolls Royce engine, allowing it to reach a top speed of 45 mph, which it could also achieve in reverse if necessary, a feature that could be crucial if the crew needed to retreat quickly.
