About Us

The Hobby Centre first opened its doors in May 1986, and we’ve been part of Ottawa’s hobby community ever since. After six relocations over nearly four decades, we’re now in our largest—and in our humble opinion, best—location yet. With easy road access, plenty of parking, and a bright open shop, we’re able to display a massive range of products and host events, classes, and community gatherings.

A Hobby Store Built for Builders

We’re a full-time hobby shop known for carrying a small quantity of a lot of different items. Our roots are in scale modeling, but our selection has grown with our community. Today, you’ll find:

  • Scale model kits of all kinds
  • Paints, tools, and finishing supplies
  • RC cars, trucks, and parts (a growing category since the closure of Dynamic Hobbies)
  • Model rockets, diecasts, and entry-level model trains in HO and N

Our goal has always been simple: offer a wide variety, expert help, and a place where hobbyists feel at home.

A True Third Space for Hobbyists

The Hobby Centre isn’t just a store—it’s a community space. With dedicated areas for gaming, model demos, classes, workshops, and group meetings, we strive to be a welcoming “third space” where hobbyists can build, learn, and connect.

Our public “Everyone Builds!” nights run twice monthly and are open to all skill levels. Whether you’re assembling your first kit or showing off your latest masterpiece, you’ll always find friendly faces and good company.

A Store Filled With Inspiration

Our well-known model displays—recognizable to long-time customers—continue to inspire and spark creativity throughout the shop. They’re a reminder of the fun and imagination at the heart of this hobby.

We’re proud to offer a welcoming, relaxed space where you can explore, ask questions, and connect with a community that shares your passion.

We Grow With You

This site—and our store—continue to evolve. We welcome your ideas and feedback at hobcen@rogers.com so we can keep improving and building the kind of community we’ve enjoyed for almost forty years.

We look forward to serving hobbyists wherever we can.
