F/A-18D, US Marine Corps, VMFA(AW)-225 Vikings - Academy 12422
Developed by Boeing (previously McDonnell Douglas), the F/A-18 Hornet is a swift, twin-engined night/attack fighter. The aircraft took to the skies in November of 1978, with the first production flight in the spring of 1980. The initial production run of the plane was 380 F/A-18As. In 1987, the variant F/A-18C was unveiled. A and C are single-seater aircraft, while B and D are tandem-seaters. Built for land and sea, the aircraft is unique for its in-flight refueling capabilities. In total, 1,480 examples of the F/A-18 were built. This model kit faithfully recreates the F/A-18D Hornet as part of Marine Fighter Squadron 225 (VMFA-225) in 1/72 scale.
