General History
HMCS St Laurent was the first post war destroyer built for the RCN. Her design was a departure from classical destroyer and frigate arrangement, reflecting the requirement to operate in the North Atlantic where ice build up and adverse weather conditions are experienced with some regularity. St. Laurent and her sisters were considered quite advanced when she commissioned in 1955. The drawing offered here depicts her in her original configuration, as she was later converted to the same arrangement as depicted in the Annapolis drawings.
