Free Comic Book Day 2005 |
If you didn’t hear about our event, which we have been informed that ours is one of the more spectacular displays in the industry (we have received all kinds of feedback through the internet for our past efforts), it is because the organizers at the top level didn’t want to include us in the store directory as we did not buy all of the book titles that they felt “we needed”. Our goal is and has been to celebrate comics, superheroes and attract new people who might not otherwise try out a comic book. To accomplish this, we don’t buy the alternate press and adult titles that were required to be “allowed” on the official web site etc. Did I say, “buy”? Oh yes. We pay for all of the free comic books that we give away. This is fine, it is a great promotional tool and combined with our costumes and carnival atmosphere is a great way to promote fandom and our business. So we bought hundreds of books, but just the titles that worked with our goals. We think it is a little silly that we must do as we’re told in order to be an qualified participant when heck; we do it better than nearly everybody else! What do you think?
